Super many congrats on all of your achievements in the last year!! It really sounds like you're coming out of school with a bang given the Annie Award nomination. I hope that gives you a nice shiny feather in your cap for when you apply to the major studios. On a random but similar note, I was thinking about you re-watching Howl's Moving Castle recently and the bonus material with Miyazaki visiting Pixar. Lasseter was adorable how excited he was to see Miyazaki, and I was wondering what your reaction would have been ( ... )

Ahhh thank you :) I feel like with all my solo portfolio work from school that I ended up allowing to slide in order to keep holding things together on the film (plus doing animation supervision on another short film at the same time in my last semester as well)... I'm just glad something's happening with the film if my personal work had to take a backseat to it, y'know? Hope it looks good on the resume too. OH MAN, if I met Miyazaki?? I think I'd actually just freeze up and repeat what would be something cool/grateful to say to him in my head. And then he'd be gone before I had the change to go up and say something. 1000% what would happen ( ... )

*laugh* It always sounds like you let yourself get mixed up into too many projects. At least you placed your focus in the right area for the film to get nominated. I'm still so amazed and happy for you! Haha, at least you would be probably thinking if you met Miyazaki. I think a phrase of "Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god... wait, what is that in Japanese?" would be cycling through my head ( ... )

I have a hard time saying no to things. But also I was offered an opportunity to go to New York for a week and visit some animation studios, and it turned out if I accepted the supervising role that would at least pay for my flight, so what could I do, eh? (Although I did turn down a teaching position because I didn't want to get too busy to either apply for other jobs or FINALLY work on my portfolio, so that's.. something. Starting to wonder if I should've taken it though...Ohhh yeaaaah, the moving stage! I suspect that was the first time I'd ever seen that before or a stage production big enough to have that many moving parts; pretty sure watching the bridge lift away from Javert as he "fell" and was swept offstage by the turntable/"current" blew my balls off XD But yeah, it wasn't until reading*coughskimmingcough* the book in junior high that I realized it was pretty much Crying And Fighting: The Musical/Novel. Erk, nice, dad :/ (Wait, did he read the book too? For sure Cosette kinda does her "oh that makes me sad, I'm gonna not ( ... )
