"I'll work the pipe and swallow the gravy!"

Saw Tropic Thunder by myself this morning because none of my other friends seemed enthused.

I love satire as much as I love straight comedies, and I think Thunder pulled it (the former) off wonderfully. Helps a lot if you watch a lot of movies/movie trailers/celeb culture.

There's been a lot of controversy over this movie already.. )

Oh god your icon 8D~ vejiicakes August 13 2008, 23:15:19 UTC
THE TRAILER WAS AMAZING OMG OMG RDJ does that THING where you cock your head all dramatically into the title screen with the swell of the music and even though his eyes look seriously freaky with the blue contacts (I'm talking Jessica Alba!Sue Storm freaky) he STILL does that sensitive watery doe-eyed thing while gazing longingly at a weirdly appealing Tobey Maguire and asjdhfkajhfkajg jaoifj MY LATENT PRIEST KINK AUGHHHH. Also rosary fondling.

It must be the monologues--they're kinda silly, I guess, but I don't really... listen to the words at this point. Mohinder could read me the phone book.

YES PLZ RECS I love your recs <3 AND I SHIP MOHINDER WITH ANYONE, though the strongest contenders are Sylar man, pre-"Zane", post-"Zane", mutual antagonism or one-sided affection or identity crisis or WHATEVER it's always just this side of fucked up and amazing and... yeah, pretty much anyone, I guess. Oh and Matt--I don't know if that's actual visceral interest or just the delight at Molly's canon two daddies though. I actually didn't pay much attention to the series in general until Mohinder and Sylar first saw each other through Zane's screen door, but I'm SO OPEN TO ANYTHING involving Mohinder. I've been omnomnom'ing cerebel's fics over the last few days, but I'm still a fandom n00b!

That was the sexiest scene ever maiahaha August 13 2008, 23:28:07 UTC
THAT SOUNDS LIKE EVERYTHING I COULD EVER WANT IN A RIDICULOUS TRAILER ABOUT HOMO PRIEST LOVE. Aaaaaah I am so excited so very very excited.

MOHINDER IS MAN-PRETTY with his gay clothes and scarves and that voice. His amazing beautiful voice. HOTNESS.

GOOD GOOD because I ship him with everyone ever, at least once. (But mostly with Matt and Sylar because you can't tell me that's not canon.) That's how I roll. It's going to take me a bit (I HAVE A LOT OF RECS FOR YOU ♥)

BUT HERE'S THIS. For the waiting. Also it's hot. Yeah.

Man, that's not EVEN getting into the ridic hotness of the twined- well, I won't spoil all the squee for you. WHY AREN'T YOU WATCHING THIS MOVIE YET?

*gurglegurgle* AUGH and just when I'd given up on finding a nice Mylar music vid :D YOU ARE LIKE CHRISTMAS. Or something similar of any other denomination.

Most of the series, my friends and I were sitting around the TV but I'd have my nose in the laptop or something. I'd look up a few times--Claire would get hurt, Hiro would be adorable, Mohinder would wear some awful shirt, Peter would seriously need to cut his hair, meh. And THEN! THAT ONE SCENE! Where Sylar opens the door and Mohinder's THERE and the wind tosses his curls a bit and Sylar just stares like he's transfixed and I was like, "..ohhh... *click* ...OHHHHH!"

Of course, then there's daddy!Matt and BOY would it have been interesting to see how that particular co-habiting situation got started up >:D (Mmm, and then with Matt being all big and knowing exactly what to do to you...)

Annnnd this one too!

Illumination In Unnatural Light by cerebel "I just want to talk to you." "Really," murmurs Sylar, then he smirks. A shiver runs up Mohinder's spine, but he ignores it. There's never been a patient in Greenridge Hospital he hasn't been able to handle. (My favorite of cerebel's fics.)

I'm now curious about this trailer. I don't think I could actually handle the full movie of Tropic Thunder without a remote handy to fast forward through parts I can't stand (I'm not much of a stupid comedy person), but that Satan's Alley trailer must be hilarious if it earned its own webpage... unless all of the fake movies got a trailer. =P Still, highly amusing to see it as an official looking page and I hope they actually do load that trailer someday. =P

Oh, and to me, RDJ with blue eyes is a little more disturbing than the blond hair... or maybe it's the mixture of the two. Either way, I far prefer the puppy dog brown eyes. ;)

I'm of the opinion that most of the comedy is pretty smart (not like.. Oscar Wilde smart comedy, but-) by virtue of its genuine satire, but there's plenty of just plain stupid comedy too. I laugh at Stephen Fry's dry comedy of language as much as I laugh at Jack Black digging in his underwear for a firearm, after all XD And.. holy crap, I've never seen that website! 'Course I never even heard of Satan's Alley before this seeing this movie. Still, this was the only one of the fake movie trailers proceeding Tropic Thunder proper that looked like it might, conceivably, actually have story behind it.

I always fancied RDJ's eyes over his other lovely assets (well, then there's his amazing booty) so the freaky contacts were especially jarring to me. Though I will say that the hair was the most immediately noticeable, right off the bat. It's so.. yellow. He definitely looks best with the dark hair and eyes. Doesn't clash with his facial hair so much, either -_-

*nods* It's that most that worries me a bit about seeing the movie, and at $10 a ticket these days, I think I'll wait for a friend to pick up the DVD and I'll watch it with the handy use of a remote. ;) But I have to admit, with some of the more recent trailers coming out, it doesn't look as bad as I thought it'd be. I love satire and darker comedy; it's the physical cheap stuff that bugs me (which I imagine Black doing throughout the movie)... unless it's a lead-in to a great line about that person's stupidity, e.g. the obvious crashes in Iron Man that led to the joy of robot hilarity.

Whooho, I actually knew something before you? ;) ...But of course, I only found it because of this post and I googled the thing thinking it may have been a real trailer. =P Found the website instead and I'm going to laugh my ass off if they actually attempt a satire movie of that one, too. I find it interesting that Tropic Thunder isn't mentioned anywhere (that I see), but they use RDJ's character name of Kirk Lazarus. I can see it now, another 'you have to live the movie!' plot where RDJ gets it on with Toby to better understand their character roles. *laugh!*

Fair enough, but really, the cheap physical comedy is pretty sparse in this movie. It's like, "poke at Hollywood, poke at Hollywood, poke at Hollywood politics, poke at celebrity culture, poke at gross-out comedies, poke at fat-joke movies, Tom Cruise looks ridiculous, poke at Hollywood some more, poke at celeb substance abuse, poke at celeb bigheadedness, etc, [1 hour later] Jack Black reaches into his underwear during a fight sequence, poke at big budget action movie tropes, climactic scene, more poking at Hollywood, end." They don't lead to anything, but they're very incidental to the bigger picture (that being the lambasting of celeb culture/Hollywood tropes, etc.)

Getting it on with Toby to understand the character role is SO something Kirk Lazarus would've done too. He'd probably go live in a monastery for 8 months, find the boyish gay one, and have a hot rosary-fondling romance with him. All for the sake of research, of course...... *cough*

Well, we'll see if a friend of mine convinces me to go with him because no one else wants to go or else saw it before him. His guilt trips are partially the reason I see movies at the movie theater despite the cost.

And yes, after reading some of that bio on the Kirk page (hilarious, btw - do they say it in the movie?), I see that he's quite the method actor. I love the quote, "Lazarus always pushed deep method techniques to their absolute breaking point," and yet they never mention the method acting required for 'Satan's Alley'. I swear, that would be one movie I'd definitely go see. The rosaries! And the candles! *swoon* Priest kink is so wrong and yet so good. Fiction writers must take up this opportunity and do it now so I can read it!

*cracks up at the bio* Although they don't talk directly about the stuff in the bio, you can definitely see the symptoms or.. results of this sort of life in the character of Kirk, once we get to see past his current stint in method acting taking place in the film. He's definitely one of the more interesting characters in the movie, so this was a pretty neat accompaniment to seeing the actual film! Glad you found it ^_^ Wonder if we'll see any fic from this film...

Yeah RDJ definitely researched for this role ^_~. Why he's already molested Toby before in Wonder Boys and they were actually in bed naked and he was making leery eyes at him too. I'm sure when they had to do this scene, RDJ and Toby were like... 'oh don't worry, this is old school'.
