ARRRRRRRRRRRR~!!!

I know everyone on LJ has exploded with their thoughts on Dead Man's Chest today, and I find I agree with just about everyone by turns (with the additional comment that I do like brainless action fluff too, so the hurty bits for the nay-sayers didn't really kill anything for me). I will say this, though ( Read more... )

I still can't tell if he was trying to essentially... do what Badelt did with that quasi-contemporary rock edge to the (probably synth) orchestra, or if he was trying to incorporate that into his usual sound (lotsa Gladiator-esque dun DUN dun dunDUNDUN's) or.. well, I'm fairly certain he wasn't just doing his usual thing. Normally, I quite like Zimmer, and I can pinpoint him as a movie's composer most of the time. POTC2 just... no. Completely unremarkable. Kind of unpleasant, sometimes.

(Don't beat him too badly! We still need him for every upcoming Hollywood historical adventure piece, and I don't know if James Horner still has it in him... Oh who am I kidding, it's probably Zimmer who's running out of steam -_-)

I remember when Pirates first came out and a lot of people were accusing Badelt of copying Zimmer's style, especially in The Gladiator Waltz and the main Pirates theme... they are similar, but honestly, I think Badelt has an edge that Zimmer doesn't really have anymore. And yes, definitely unpleasant. The music really ruined it even more for me.

(Well, sadly enough, I'm half expecting John Williams to do the music for the final movie.)

Really? All I heard about the first soundtrack was that critics were crashing down on it for being so bizarrely contemporary. That and the synth. Except that I liked the melodies, so I didn't find much cause to complain--damn catchy tunes, they were. And honestly, I'd have never drawn a connection between the two composers, so that surprises me that one was being made O_O

(*laughs* Well, it'd be sure to be distinctively triumphant and heavy on the brass ^_^;; Overly so, probably. I keep forgetting John Williams is alive. ... He is, isn't he?)

Well, distinctively pirate music in of itself is really a contemporary sort of music, I just think that Badelt did an amazing job of making a soundtrack that really... is super adventurous and memorable. The synthesizer thing? I totally never caught that. o__o; I'll have to listen again... even though I've listened to the Pirates soundtrack about a hundred times. XD

(Yes, he's still alive. XD)
