Actually, I'm not sure how that information was used, but I can only assume it was for the forces of evil.

No and no. I set it some far year in the future so that it'll always be at the top of my page. If you date a post out of order, it doesn't show up on any of your friends' updates, so chances are you're the only one who's even seen it.
