Summary: Jocelyn finds Luke in Brocelind Forest when she finds out from Ragnor Fell that he is still alive.
Author's Note: I've noticed there is very little Luke and Jocelyn related fanfic out there so I thought I'd fill the gap as I think their story is just so bitter sweet. I'm planning on writing short (sometimes long) vignettes of Luke and Jocelyn moments. Some will be adapted from mentions in the books (or gaps), and others are just going to be my pure imagination. This is the first of the series (and my first in this fandom) - enjoy!

1. Brocelind Forest

‘We have to stop him, Luke. I have to get out’. Her voice rose, high and hysterical. ‘I thought -'  A sob caught in her throat. 'He told me you were dead’.

‘Jocelyn it’s ok, it’s ok’. He pulled her to him gently so her head was against his chest. He could feel her tears through his shirt and his heart tightened. Jocelyn rarely ever cried. She was a fighter. His fighter.

He still couldn't believe she was here. He’d been woken roughly by his second-in-command to be told that a girl had arrived on horseback, begging to speak to him: ‘Is Lucian Graymark here? Please. He’s my friend.’

But she was not the Jocelyn he remembered. She looked awful. Dark rings hung under her eyes and she was so pale her skin was almost translucent against her red hair. Even though it must have been a matter of weeks since she’d given birth her body was skeletal. She was so frail he was worried she might break.

‘He’s a monster,’ she whispered against his chest. ‘Luke, the things he’s done. I’d never abandon you. Never.’

She looked small and vulnerable in his arms. He rested his chin on top of her head, breathing her in. Even now he realised - despite everything - he’d do anything for her.

‘We need a plan’.

She looked up at him in disbelief. In the deep depths of green something flickered - a fierce determination that hadn't been there before. ‘You’ll help me?’

He stared back at her. His Jocelyn. She was worth it, wasn't she?

He met her eyes. ‘Always’.
