Civics
Citizenship is defined as ‘the state of being vested with the rights and duties of a citizen’, With this definition in mind, if one looks at Martin Luther King Jr.’s Letter from Birmingham City Jail, they would see true exmples of citizenship in the United States.
In the 17th paragraph of Dr. King’s letter, he discusses how a citizen has a moral responsibility to disobey an unjust law. This would fall under the catagory of citizenship because, though the citizen does not have the right to do such, it is his/her duty as a human being to not hurt another person. It ‘s their duty because he/she is required to respect the natural laws, and a law is only unjust when is goes against the natural laws.
Further in the letter, he continues to promote the topic of rebellion against unjustice. He is still relating this to citizenship because of the American citizen’s right to rebell against the government if it proves corrupt. The government is corrupting the country, in some parts, because it is not allowing a race of people the freedom to live peacefully and equally amongst other people of different races.
FINISH IT!
