I hate this limbo when you go from one bank to another. The Georgia Federal Credit Union will not send our debit cards for our new checking account until there is a min. of $100 in the account (I get that, fine), OR you set up Direct Deposit. Rockdale is initiated mine, but my paycheck won't go in there until April 17th. Then it's going to take 7-10 business days to actually get the cards. This means that I can't pay any bills with this account until we receive them. Basically, I'm going to be juggling two checking accounts. We can't just put in $100 because that is taking away from the money that the bills are going to be paid with. WTF?
I've been doing random, brief searches for apartments and rental houses in Ann Arbor over the past week, just to get an idea of prices. I posted something in the Ann Arbor LJ community, one of them at least, about areas to avoid, etc. I guess the first step is to find something within our price range, then make sure it's close to an AATA bus stop, then ask around about the area. I found a really cute house on Craigslist but of course we can't do anything until the summer. I wonder how long we have to give the owner in advance??? Like, do I call them in May or June and say "we're moving in during July sometime". With apartments, I know it takes a few months (that's the max you should give them anyway) to completely process your credit and find out if it's even possible for you to live there. I will start narrowing down apartments in May, then applying.
I have a headache now. Ugh.
