4. this too shall pass.
Russia. Middle of the night. Forty-six hours since the MI5 agents were killed.
James cannot feel his face.
He's curled up on the floor of the empty apartment he found, the doorless and windowless room where no one will bother him. Well, no one human, anyway; he was woken up this morning by a pigeon crapping on his head.
His face is the only part of him not covered up, and it's numb with cold. Since he can't sleep anyway, he slowly wriggles one hand free of its mitten and pokes at his cheek.
Yep. Numb.
He tugs the glove back on and hugs his half-empty vodka bottle to his chest and thinks, What now?
5. there are cracks in the universe
Doctor Stephen Strange isn't the Sorcerer Supreme anymore.
Billy takes a long time to digest this news. He's still thinking about it long after he's returned home, long after his brothers have gotten bored of asking which bad guys he beat up today (and his mother is done frowning about his brothers asking which bad guys he beat up today).
It's just something fundamentally wrong; he can't quite accept it.
The Green Goblin is in charge.
Captain America is dead.
And Dr Strange is just another magic user.
(No wonder, he thinks. No wonder Mom ... disappeared. The world's getting screwy and she wants no part in it.)
