The longest day of the year

Oct 12, 2002 01:03

I was awakened by my mom telling me she's taking dad to the hospital because he has a severe stomach ache, one that he had been passing off for the past few days (of course- just like he did when he had his heart attack). I fell back asleep, I don't know how, and woke up to my alarm clock, trying to remember what my mom had said to me. Good thing she left a note.

In school I was worried sick. I also had a terrible stomach ache myself, but it was for another reason. I used the opportunity to go to the office and call my parents to see how my dad is doing and get some Tums. Of course as useless as our secretaries are they would not give me any Tums because I am seventeen and they needed my parents approval beforehand. So I tried my parents at Baumont, but they weren't in a room yet for me to be forwarded to them and cell phones don't work in hospitals.

After going crazy at our spirit week assembly, which this year was hilariously rigged for us seniors to win, I came home to find a message on the answering machine about Dan: His appendix had burst and they were going to remove it. I still couldn't reach my parents, plus with Baumont being at 13 and Woodward, I went to work.

Finally, after 17 hours of confusion, my mom comes home after I got off work and told me how he is doing. Apparently he is in great pain because it had burst and the surgeons had to clean all the surrounding organs. The surgery is over, but he is going to stay at the hospital for the next week to take antibiotics and for more analysis.

I'm going to visit him tomorrow morning, but for now I'll keep him in my prayers.
