The UK RSPCA, RSPCA Australia and the Victorian Department of Primary Industry consider boiling to be a inhumane way of killing crustaceans and they along with Fisheries WA suggest ice slurry/cooling for the general public. For crabs pithing is seen as acceptable if done by someone who knows what they are doing.
