[EXTERIOR: DAY. A woodland meadow. An elderly bear in monk's robes sits near a stream. Seated before him is seated a yearling bear, also in monk's robes.]

"Young Bear, what do you hear?"

"Old Bear, I hear the songs of the birds, the wind in the trees, and the
babble of the brook."

"Young Bear, how is that you do not hear the salmon in the stream, the bees
making honey, nor the growling of your own stomach?"

"Old Bear, how is it that you hear these things?"

"Young Bear, I am hungry."
