Diana, you may not have to deal with this the same way everyone else does, but you have to understand the consequences of your actions. Graduating with alternative credentials will affect your future options.
TR may not be the greatest place, but nowhere will be perfect. And a diploma from TR still looks a lot better than a GED or correspondence school certificate.
Joel is giving you bad advice. I don't think he's doing it on purpose. He's coming at it from a less experienced viewpoint.
All of your siblings have made it through TR and on to university education. TR is hurdle. Jumping the hurdle is more difficult, but if you run around the hurdle you risk being disqualified from the race all together.
College opens up a whole new world of people. It's an experience. It's more than just classes. It provides a good time to form yourself and to reinvent yourself on your own terms. It may be a second chance. If you drop out of TR now, you may be cutting short your options.
Choose where to fight your battles. Taking the easier path now may make all your future paths that much harder. Passing though this one difficult task, graduating from TR, may make all your future paths that much easier. Things only got better for me after TR, however had I not stuck it out, I might not be where I am today. I have to say in college and in work, I've never met anyone with a GED or a correspondence HS education. I don't know where those people end up.
I remember when you wanted to be a doctor. I hope you still do, and you still can. Or you can choose something else. Whatever, be happy. But, if you choose take an alternative route from TR you will be limiting your choices later in life.
And if this view doesn't make sense now picture this: Do you want to continue drinking starbucks or do you want to work there? Starbucks is expensive. Do you want to go to places like Ben's for your hair, or do you want to sweep up after them? Ben's is a nice luxury. Mom and Dad have provided you with some nice tastes. If you want to enjoy those things when you're older and on your own? It's lot easier if you have a good traditional education. Can it be achived without one? Maybe, but it's that much harder.
I have made my choice. After i finish these three current courses at Tr through the homebound program, i will go to SSC for Human Success Program whiich, upon completion of my last three courses i will have my Thornridge Diploma.
