Excerpts from Summer 2011

July 2nd 2011 11:00 am San Francisco: Washing Square Park, North Beach

Washington Square park
Ben Frank, the boys & girls.
A perfect crisp, burnt, California day. The sun shines just right, warming brittle bones.
Tucker in the tree above me, he sings love songs &reminds me of Donovan.
There is something freeing and relieving when you find yourself with as much as ten dollars in your pocket.
This is when you are free from the paralysis of contentment.
Now I am only at the whim of my stomach, which growls ferociously.
Emerald hills surround, the church bells comfort the town.
We are our hungry bellies, talking only to feed our souls instead.

August 9th 2011 San Francisco: Vallejo & Jasper St.

Was it too much of a good thing that brought this city to its lifeless state?
Too many whiskey hazed nights at the old haunt next to Kerouac,
The buzz of language and revolution?
Too many foggy nights crouched on a stoop next to Gary Snider,
feeling like wolves under a steel moon grit faced to the wind.

August 9th, 2011 San Francisco: Basque Hotel Columbus Ave.

City patrons toiling Broadway & Columbus.
I smoke like a chinaman
Watching the sad eyed pigeon with a broken foot, perched on a ceil of another window.
With pink clouds peaking behind all the wires and pipes.
And the great bay of golden hills & steel bridges with all that freight, sailing...
The real industrious American locomotive.

BUDDAH: "All the constituents of being are transitory: Work out your salvation with diligence."
