Screening

We have regained our privileges at work after forever without them. That's free popcorn, soda, and movies.

Tonight I had a special screening of Shaun of the Dead. I say "special" because I got paid for it. We're supposed to watch new movies that we receive to check for scratches and other damages. I brought wordassassin with me. I thought the movie was great. It wasn't all comedy, of course, and some of the jokes were lost on me because I'm not British, but generally the comedy is universal. I was especially excited to see Dylan Moran and Tamsin Gregg from the TV series Black Books. Dylan had a main role, but Tamsin was only on screen for a moment. I was more excited because, in my lack of knowledge of British actors, I didn't expect to recognize anyone at all. And bonus points for showing Morrissey on the television.

Much to my dismay, there were scratches on the print. Really big, angry, green vertical scratches, during the last third or so of the movie. I took off upstairs to make sure the machine wasn't scratching it, and when I got up there, the reel had gained an ovular shape (caused by speed-ups on the platter), and the excess had pushed the tail of the reel off the platter. It was spinning around the edge waiting to get caught in something. I put the tail back up and tried to work the reel back into a circle (much like a certain scene in Ghost, only Patrick Swayze wasn't helping me). It came out much more like a square. Nothing much I could do for it from there, but I kept an eye on it and watched the rest of the movie from the projection booth.

Now that I've got free movie privileges back (for however long that lasts), I'd like to start seeing movies more often. If you ever see something interesting, just give me a shout.

I also decided to start back up on my diet again. I've gone way too far to quit now. I don't have any particular diet, just drink water instead of soda, and meals instead of snacks. I'd also like to go exploring the town on my bicycle more often. I used to do that in the mornings when I first started college, and I saw so many interesting spots. Now that I have a camera I can post pictures and we can play "Guess Where Dan Is?"

"Dan, those look like the bushes outside my bathroom window."
