ITS OUT! This is my first real step out into the commercial world. My collaboration with the poet Amjad Nasser was released today and unfortunately will be gone tomorrow. I adapted his poetry with a series of 20 ink illustrations based around the arabesque art of Alhambra. It was published as a supplement and featured in 27 newspaper across the globe(mainly in the middle east, but can be found everywhere) and apparently was printed in the MILLIONS. MILLIONS! Whoa. Funded and initated by Kitab Fi Jarida and UNESCO.
As you can see, this is TOTALLY different to the work i usually do. I have to say i enjoyed working on something less tangiable and more abstract, it was indeed a challenge at first to get myself to think differently but eventually it became really satisfying. The end result of the supplement wasnt amazing, they destroyed my cover by cutting out about 30% of it(WHY?!?) and the layout design wasnt very ambitious. unfortunately they didnt include me in that process, by the time i got the proofs it was too late for me to intervene. Despite that it was a fantastic opportunity and real a eye opener for me, in terms of what i could do.
In other news, illustrator is a bitch. And not even my bitch yet, which is what i need.
AND HEY, i'm posting regularly! Who would of thought?
