Somebody really needs to start making "maverick" a bad word.
Maybe point out the fact that being a "maverick" also negates the need to listen to the needs of the people. Whenever I hear the word I find myself immediately following with the word "shark" in my head. I then think about the story somebody told me about how maco sharks basically bite anything in their path, and that there are stories of them even biting the props of boats. When this happens they are apparently know to hold on for a bit, turning over a few times until they move one for more fleshy obstacles.
