Road trip Chicago-DC

I'm taking a road trip this weekend leaving from Chicago to Washington D.C. We'll take i-80 East to the Ohio Turnpike to i-70. We'd like to stop somewhere for a meal, but I'm having a hard time finding some place that's not too far (ie less than 10 miles) off the interstate. Somewhere in Ohio would be preferable. We've already stocked up on goodies ( Read more... )

Ms. Julie's Kitchen is very small with very few options. It's mainly a take-out place but what they do have is delicious and fairly inexpensive. VegiTerranean is wayyy overpriced but is so delicious. There's a good Middle Eastern place in Akron called Aladdin's Eatery that is delicious as well. Unfortunately there are not many options in Akron.

In Berea (outside of Cleveland), there's a place called Treehugger Cafe that I haven't been to but many people have recommended it to me. There's also a place in Cleveland called the Flaming Ice Cube Cafe (http://www.flamingice.com/Menu/MenuClevelandDownload.pdf). Last time I was there it had just opened so they had very few options on their menu. However, what they did have was so good! Melt (www.meltbarandgrilled.com) has two locations in the Cleveland area. They are very popular, though, and you might have to wait to get a seat. However, they have lots of vegan options and is sooo worth the wait (if you do go there, don't get the fries. They are not vegan).

Oh yeah, someone mentioned Tommy's as well. I forgot to list that! Here is the website: http://www.tommyscoventry.com/ Sometimes it gets really busy and they don't have much of a waiting area. The food is good but not phenomenal. The atmosphere, however, is great.

there's also a Flaming Ice Cube Cafe (and an Aladdin's, according to vegohio.com) in Boardman/Youngstown, which is close to 80 (their menu is at http://www.flamingice.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=CAfe_Menu )

I would definitely recommend the Flaming Ice Cube in Boardman. Their veggie burgers are to die for and their panini sandwiches are also amazing. And they always have a selection of delicious vegan desserts. I used to live in that area and every time I'm back home I pretty much eat there every day =)
