Hellllooo!  So humor me here for a second.  I know eating a diverse diet is the best for health and getting all of the nutrition  you need, but what foods would you say one could eat and be getting all of the vitamins/minerals required for a "healthy" diet.  I know most American's eat a very limited amount of food, usually chicken, cheese, and ( Read more... )

Wow, I didn't know people got so offended in these communities. I was just joking by that statement, but where I live, it is NOT far from the truth. As a matter of fact, where I live is stereotype city (for a lot of things). We have a lot of hunters here, and everyone just eats steak and potatoes with no vegetables (a lot of people I know will NOT touch a single vegetable). Or since this is one of the biggest chicken producing cities, they will just eat fried chicken and french fries. I know not every single person eats this way, but I was merely referencing the fast food epidemic and such.. sorry if I touched on some nerves, but maybe you should grow some thicker skin? I in no way have a superiority complex. I do not know a single other vegan in real life, and I never even mention my food choices to them. Sorry if you got the wrong idea.

I thought you were completely spot-on, and you shouldn't be afraid to speak your mind, even if it was half in jest. I know many, many people who look at me like I have two heads when I willingly choose to eat ANY kind of vegetable. Period. Chicken, cheese, and bread for the majority sounds about right to me.

I knew you were exaggerating, and it didn't bother me. Though the average American diet does consist of far too much meat, corn, potatoes, bread, processed food, fried food, and dairy products. I know my city isn't one of the most obese in the country because everyone's stuffing themselves on vegetables, that's for sure.

I understood that you were employing hyperbole, but also that it's true that many Westerners barely eat vegetables aside from potatoes. :)

That sounds like a good list of healthy staples. I'd maybe add apples and/or citrus, and oatmeal a whole grain if they agree with you.

For the record, I know a few people who do really eat like that. One guy only eats meat, cheese, bread, pasta, and he likes exactly 3 vegetables (corn, potatoes, broccoli) but really never eats broccoli. Another guy with the meat/cheese/bread diet hates veggies, likes fruits, but never really bothers to eat them. Hell, my own boyfriend goes days without eating anything but candy bars, pizza, and energy drinks.
I also know a girl who likes ONLY bacon, grilled cheese sandwiches, rice, tortilla chips, and ice cream. Literally. She pretty much has an eating disorder.

I had a housemate who mostly only ate beige/white/yellow/chocolate-brown things. The only vegetables she ate were potatoes, and the only fruit she ate was in her apple and blackcurrant juice.
