Whoo-hoo, I am going to
the Rally to Restore Sanity in Washington, D.C.!
I have visited D.C. before, but not as a vegan and not for an overnight stay. I looked through some tags and entries, but I didn't see much as far as restaurant recommendations. I am looking for places I should not miss while in town with two other vegan friends. We will be staying near I Street & 3rd, but we will be wandering many places by foot and Metro. Let me know where I should eat! :)
ETA: I don't drink coffee any longer, but my friends do so cafés (locally owned = better) are also good for the list.
Here is my Google Map so you can see what I've already bookmarked. (Yes, I am a geek. ♥ my Google Maps.) Oh, and for the Metro do you recommend getting the Smart Fare Card thing for the Metro? How do I know how much to put on it so I don't end up wasting money?
ETA 2: If you can point me to a Farmer's Market on Saturday or food co-op to buy food rather than hitting up a bunch of expensive restaurants, that gets you bonus points. ;-) I am more than willing to go raw for the weekend if it means saving moolah, though we are staying in a place with a kitchen, so technically I can make things if we are there long enough (which we may not be).
If there are free or mostly free activities you think we should check out, feel free to comment on that as well. The rallies will only take up so much of our time. We do have tentative plans to go jogging in the National Arboretum, and I get there early enough on Friday to stop by the Supreme Court if I like. What else that is not the big, touristy stuff would you recommend?
Thanks in advance!
