Vegan friendly grocery resupply in the CA Redwoods?

We're planning on car camping for several days up in the vicinity of Leggett/Garberville/Redway California next week, and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on places where we can resupply on produce and bread. I'm planning on bringing enough to feed us, but I've been stuck with unexpectedly spoiled food before while traveling and so I'd like to ( Read more... )

I love Garberville!

There is a cute health food store downtown where you can get the usual groceries.

Woodrose Cafe has yummy tofu scramble.

Flavors is my favorite cafe. The last time I was there they had rice, soy and almond milks available for coffee drinks. MMM.

Oh, excellent! That is exactly what I was looking for! Someplace where I can replenish fruits and greens and buy an emergency loaf of bread.

I couldn't resist answering your question and then slipping in a couple local treats as well. ;)

We're on a pretty tight budget for this trip, so the tofu scramble will likely be missed this time, but the coffee place is especially appreciated since I can only deal with bad instant coffee for a few days before wanting good stuff. :) I'm so excited about taking my five year old up there for the first time. We're planning to stay at Benbow Lake and Richardson Grove.

I bet your five year old is going to love it! The redwoods are flipping amazing.

I completely understand the tight budget bit! We usually bring most of our food when we travel, too.

Regarding bad instant coffee, have you tried Starbuck's Via? It's not awesome, but with a splash of soymilk, it's pretty drinkable. Costco sells 15-packs for pretty cheap ($.50/cup, I think). When we went backpacking recently, we brought ground coffee and a plastic cone with us. It costs about as much per cup as Via, and tastes worlds better. I guess it depends on if you want to deal with a semi-messy filter or not.

Aw, I love Benbow. I want to copy your trip!
