Is there a vegan equivalent to gelatin film?
I keep hearing that there isn't but then I hear that there is? Has anyone had any experience with this?

I would love to be able to use my film cameras again, thanks<3

I think that saying this is when it's okay to use an animal product, is frankly, bullshit. Hopefully no one who considers themselves vegan would consume a food product with gelatin because there's no alternative, I don't see how this is any different.

Oh noes, it's the vegan police. Enjoy not buying books, band-aids, and almost anything else that uses adhesives/glues.

This.

That's a humorous assumption, but I'm far from vegan police. I make concessions in my lifestyle because I have no alternatives for certain things. There is a reasonable and accessible alternative to film photography. Books? Not so much.

False.

I'm assuming that you're aware of the advent of digital photography, and don't consider that adequate. So, would you care to explain?

Dude, I'm not even a photog, but I am able to grasp the concept that film is a very particular medium. Do not pretend that you believe that loading pixels into photoshop approximates hours carefully crafting your work in a darkroom. The quality is different, the craft is different. If someone is passionate about photography, and has mastered how to work with film, there is no approximation.

Vegan police. Accept and step down.

I'm aware of the differences between film and digital photography. While I don't use film and rarely use digital, a few of my close friends are photographers and they've kindly taken the time to explain these differences to me.

I guess it comes down to the fact that I don't believe in compromising your ethics for the sake of art.

If you were an artist, perhaps you would understand.

I am, and I still don't.

Or an artist in general, really. I don't personally understand wanting to do film photography... because I am personally not compelled to do it. But I am an artist, and I am compelled to do what I do, and if doing my thing involved as much unveganness as film photography and the other thousands of unvegan inextricable elements in our lives, I wouldn't stop.

So being compelled "to do what I do" is more important than ethics and beliefs ... in the sake of art? Why believe in anything then if it's thrown to the wayside because someone 'wants to get creative?' How egocentric.

Shall I go to your house and make sure you've replaced all your bound books with e-books, as well? Unless you don't like to read, of course. Then we'll find another example for you.

So you use animal products when it suits you and try to justify that by conjuring up impractical examples of purging everything animal-based from people's lives? Yes? Just so we're on the same page.

Oh, but it's not impractical. E-books, Kindles. Digital is a perfect replacement when it comes to something so trivial as art.

See, we're in the same club. I, too, have nobly given up film photography for the sake of veganism. And were they non-vegan, I would give up dancing in the Russian ballet and blacksmithing as well. It's so nice that feeling self-righteous requires so little effort.
