News media promotes ridiculous story about meat and climate change

He publishes no results and is an animal scientist not a climate scientist. Stupidity follows:

EDIT: Funded by the beef industry "...this study was actually funded by the Beef Checkoff Program. Here's the press release from UC Davis: "...this study was actually funded by the Beef Checkoff Program. "Writing the synthesis was supported by a $26,000 research grant from the Beef Checkoff Program, which funds research and other activities, including promotion and consumer education, through fees on beef producers in the U.S."

"Eating less meat won’t curb climate change: study"

"WASHINGTON - Eating less meat will not reduce global warming, and reports that claim it will are distracting society from finding real ways to beat climate change, a leading air quality expert said on Monday."

Links to versions of the story here, here, here and here. Please reply at those sites. Especially yahoo.

He's no climate scientist or modeler. He's published no results and all the versions of the story I've seen have zero evidentiary claims.

Please criticise this story when you see it in the media. Post responses. Debate it. We can't let this sort of lie poison what is a vital issue.

The CV of the author: "B.S.: Animal Science, University of Goettingen, Germany. M.S.: Agricultural Engineering and Animal Science (Diplom Agrar Ingenieur, Dipl. agr. ing.), University of Leipzig, Germany, 1996. Ph.D.: Animal Science, Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX, 2000.

Previous research was conducted in the areas of air quality (dust emission and microbial sampling in feedlot cattle and pigs), environmental physiology (heat stress in cattle and pigs), and ethology.

My current research activities are in two main areas: 1. Air quality research related to livestock production, especially quantification of ammonia, dust, and odor emissions in dairies, beef feedlots, and poultry operations. Main objective is to help establishing environmentally benign livestock systems. 2. Environmental physiology research, focusing on effects of air emissions on animal health and welfare."

Looks like the media has swallowed the lie.
