Cruelty-Free Silk? WTF?

Ok, so I'm watching the local news, and they've got a piece on about the Oscars, and how there's some sort of "go green" theme to the event this year. They had a few stars on giving soundbites about saving the earth, yadda yadda...and then mentioned how James Cameron's wife will be wearing a dress made from "cruelty free silk".

Since when is there such a thing? I'll be the first to admit that I'm no fashionista, but I wasn't aware that such a thing was even possible.

Anyone able to fill me in?
