Mohegan Sun Casino in CT

I just came back from spending a night at Mohegan Sun, a casino and resort in CT. Before going, I searched far and wide on the web for any vegan, or even vegetarian, who had asked what their options were there or reported what they were able to eat. I barely found anything, and it's a pretty popular spot in the Northeast of the US, which was discouraging. I thought I would share my vegan adventure here for others who might be looking for information at eating at Mohegan Sun.

Mohegan Sun, as a casino and resort, is huge and had a ridiculous amount of restaurants, both casual and super fancy. The menus have a lot of meat, meat and more meat and are not very ethnically diverse - it was not a vegan paradise. I researched all of the restaurants on their site before hand, and packed some Larabars and nuts in case I got hungry. With alcohol everywhere, I knew being thirsty wouldn't be a problem... I went with my mom, and met my aunt and cousins there, but only dined with my mom, which made the experience much easier, as she would go wherever I could eat best.

Dinner on Friday Night: I found that two restaurants served vegan Boca burgers, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville and Johnny Rocket's. I've had a few Johnny Rocket's burgers in my day, and while not bad, I wanted something different. I went to Margaritaville with my mom, and got their veggie burger, which came with lettuce and tomato, and I added guacamole. It was huge, came on a toasted bun, with fries, and was actually a really great burger! The restaurant marks things that can be made vegetarian, which helps with vegan choices; I think there's also a taco salad that could be veganized. The waitstaff here was very easy to deal with.

Dessert on Friday night: Ben and Jerry's to the rescue! Four flavors of vegan sorbet to choose from. Strawberry Kiwi was delicious.

Breakfast on Saturday Morning: I thought I'd have to go to Seasons Buffet with my family, and eat fruit, dry granola, dry cereal and bagels (all vegan there, if you must go there). Instead, my mom and I went to Johnny Rocket's, where I actually had a pretty good meal again. I got "The Works" with no meat or cheese, which was basically home fries with vegetables. I got a Boca patty on the side and mixed it in with my dish, and dipped it all in ketchup. Also had some wheat toast and jelly. Certainly not the healthiest, but a satisfying diner-style breakfast! The waitstaff was very accommodating. I also picked up an iced coffee with soy milk at Starbuck's.

I thought I might have to stick around for lunch, but I didn't have to. If I had to, I would have explored Sunrise Square or Woodland Wok, two Asian places that I could have at least gotten veggie fried rice at, with some extra veggies on the side. Also, Geno's Fast Break looks like it has vegetable dumplings with rice and spring rolls; I'd double check on the vegan-ness, but I'd choose that next time to try.

Overall, if you, your friends or your family is jonsing for some gambling in the Northeast, then you will be able to find something edible and vegan to eat at Mohegan Sun. Hope this helps somebody in the future!
