I had a discussion at work the other day with a woman who was (as in past tense) a self proclaimed 'fake vegan.' She said she was doing it because of the fact that most animal products come with a great deal of antibiotics and hormones and she didn't want to put that in her body. It seems to be a pretty common mind set to approaching veganism, but it also doesn't seem to last. The woman I spoke to was only 'fake vegan' at home, but found it too difficult to manage outside the home so ate anything she felt like at restaurants. Recently, she's decided locally owned egg farmers are acceptable to her.

Which was really sad because she brought in banana bread and I couldn't have any because she had put eggs in it.

Anyway, Julia Stiles's approach could include being against factory farming and only wanting happy cows, but I couldn't tell from the interview.

Haha that's the first time I'm hearing of the term fake vegan. I love how people make up their own diets and then try to be a part of something. I mean if you're a vegan on monday, wednesday, friday only...then you are not a vegan!! I feel like right now veganism is trendy so a lot of people are declaring "i am a vegan!" and doing all these backward contradictory things that have nothing to do with it.

You're right it's possible she wants to eat happy cows. I recently went to a local grocery store and was in the dairy section. They had all these brand names like "Laughing Cow" and "Skinny Cow" and "Natures Promise" and it always has pictures of these like ecstatic cows dancing, smiling, and relaxing. It's a huge disgusting joke!!

That Laughing Cow and Happy Cow shit pisses me off. Have you seen those Happy Cow's come from California campaign? The people are suppose to go to their website and vote on who will be the "next happy cow". I'm not entirely sure what that means. Happy to go to slaughter? Here's the website:

Yeah I couldn't believe that when I saw it! Of course the dairy industry isn't going to admit how cruelly animals are treated! They're trying to sell a product.
