Opinion on Seaweed

We all know that sea vegetables and seaweed are nutritious, delicious superfoods, and many of you probably eat it, as do I.

I wonder, though, for those of us who include the environmental destruction by fishing as one of the reasons we don't eat fish-- what about the harvesting of seaweed for food? Does that not also tear up the aquatic environment, creating underwater no-man's-lands, and unintentionally kill lots of non-target marine life?

I have a hard time thinking that since fishing of all sorts is severely destroying the oceans that seaweed pickin' is 100% safe with none of those repercussions. I love seaweed, and the health benefits are phenomenal, but I can't help to think-- at what cost? Have we been overlooking that aspect of our seaweed consumption?

What do you all think?
