Hello -- I'm transferring to Humboldt State U. this fall (from San Francisco) and I'm a little bit apprehensive about it. Though I'm very excited to leave this city behind me, I'm also going to be leaving my well-established home range and all those resources which have made my transition to veganism so effortless. I'm sure I can live without those luxuries I've become so accustomed to (staple foods like Trader Joe's mildly spiced vegetable burritos, or dining out at Herbivore every once in awhile...), but I'd be more confident about it if I had a better idea of what I'm going to be getting into. Also, I was hoping I could find a place to live where I'd be among fellow vegans (or at least vegetarians), but having a small dog and no driver's license (need to live near bus routes) is making me infinitely less picky about that.
So, I was hoping that someone on here might live/have lived in/around the Humboldt/Arcata area and could tell me what to expect, offer advice, recommend places to eat/shop, or even help me find a place to live. I posted this ad on craigslist briefly describing myself and what I'm looking for:

Thanks for reading!
