NYC: places with vegan AND gluten-free options?

Mar 25, 2009 12:21

I'm going to NYC on Friday to hang out with a friend (neither of us lives there).

I'm vegan, and she has celiac disease (and allergic to dairy). Does anyone have recommendations for places that can handle both of us? I'm fine with a place that isn't exclusively vegan, as long as I can find something good to munch on.

Cheap is also a big bonus.

I've been there twice for family things, and while it was delicious, it's definitely above our budgets for this trip. Oh well.

or for a cheaper option, the Candle Cafe. So yum.

pala pizza on allen st. in the LES! not a vegan restaurant, and costlier than the usual ny pizza joint, but they have vegan choices and gluten-free crust upon request. my favorite is the pesto potato pizza. my friends and i refused to believe it was vegan, until they showed us all the ingredients. and then we felt stupid.

check out supervegan.com
theres tons of search options for food and location.
no specific gluten free search option though but there's links to almost all the restaurants on there so if something looks good, i'm sure you could check the website or call to ask about that.

Try Sacred Chow on Sullivan Street

I love this place. They have sandwiches, tapas, and vegan beer and wine. Also, the gluten-free items are marked on their menu.

Wow, they're still around? And on Sullivan? How times change. I remember when they opened, on Hudson St, right near my best friend's house. I went there all the time back in they day.

Thanks!
