I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I just saw it last night and I was unaware of a few of these acquisitions. It makes me pretty sad.

nice. there's basically no way to eat ethically unless you survive completely on whole, unprocessed foods. even then it's not ethical half the time.

I don't know. Maybe I'm not smart enough to get this, but it looks like blue means strategic alliance, so to me it looks like Heinz/Hain Celestial has a strategic alliance with the companies that are attached to it, not that they own them?

I could (and probably will) be absolutely wrong, of course.

I agree with laceyslostlove. It seems that it's not possible to eat COMPLETELY ethically unless you only eat locally and know the conditions of the farmers who grow your food. Moral of the story: Do your best. Nobody's perfect.

If you look closely at the Heinz/Hain relationship you can see that they have 0% equity as of December 2005. Based on this it seems true http://www.naturalproductsinsider.com/hotnews/5ch814385.html It looks like Heinz sold their share in Hain. I don't about Hain's practices over all, but at least it looks like they no longer have a relationship with Heinz.

I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I don't consume any of those brands with any regularity... thought that could be because I don't live in the US.
