Hi there. I'm new to the community. I've been posting some comments but haven't really introduced myself. I have been a vegetarian for about two years now, but I decided to go vegan last fall in August after volunteering on a local organic farm. I'm not that strict in that if some stuff has trace ingredients, or if I'm at my parents house and dinner isn't 100% vegan, I don't make a huge fuss. (thankfully, my parents are being more considerate of my eating choices since I told them about it!) I probably will at some point become more strict, but I'm working on it right now. Everything I buy for myself to eat is vegan, and I cook my own meals unless I know I'm going out somewhere that I can get vegan food.
Anyway, my question is about sugar. I eat a pretty healthy diet compared to most college students, but I have a horrible sweet tooth. I know sugar is not the best thing to consume a lot of, and I eat it every day. Has anyone else had this issue and worked sugar out of their diet? I might not want to work it out 100% but I'm looking for some substitutes. I think of fruit right away, but the problem is, I'm allergic to a lot of fruit. Not allergic per se, but I am very sensitive to acidic things. Fruits that especially cause me trouble are strawberries, anything citrus, some melons, etc. so I'm really paranoid about fruit in general unfortunately.
If anyone has any tips or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it!
