the debate over gianna's in philadelphia should be closed by now. their horrendous lies (check the tags of philly_veg_out for the scoop, if you are unclear) pretending that their soy cheese was vegan for years should keep everyone away ( Read more... )

It amazes me how little people know about the human body. I get violently ill if there is meat in my food, probably not as bad as some people though...
I was talking to someone a few years ago in one of my classes, she said she -had- to be vegan for some health reason having to do with her gall bladder... she went to Quiznos and repeatedly asked them if there were any animal byproducts in the food and they said no. She ate some of that food and ended up in the hospital shortly afterwards from meat product actually being in there. She missed a whole bunch of school because of that.

Agreed - a friend of mine had scarlet fever as a child, and as a result follows a strict vegan diet to avoid becoming violently ill. People need to take others' requests involving food a lot more seriously, because they have no idea why a particular person eats the way they do. It's just plain arrogance and idiocy to assume people avoid meat and/or its by-products for non-medical reasons.

Ugh reminds me of this time I was at my school's dining hall, which actually has some yummy vegan options, yay! They have a whole counter dedicated to veg*an food and this girl was trying to use the sandwich grill press to cook her meat&cheese sandwich (EW). Thankfully the woman in charge of that counter was like "UH UH HONEY! You can't do that because people who choose this diet might get sick". The uninformed meat-eating prick said in a snotty voice "uh I don't think that's true". Wanted to punch her, but at least the woman working there stuck up for us veg*ans!
