So before I left for work today I was talking with a co-worker who is Russian Orthodox and apparently they fast a lot and eat vegan when fasting (I really do not know much about the religion as I have never known anyone who was Russian Orthodox until now). She asked what I was doing for Thanksgiving tomorrow and I told her going to my fiance's parents house and how they were making fake turkey for us for the first time ever! (I am pretty excited. They are usually "I have no idea what to do if it doesn't include meat" type of people so it is a big step for them). And then she tells me how they were vegan at thanksgiving once because of how the fasts lined up or something and it was the best thanksgiving ever. And what did they eat? Lobster and shrimp and stuff....um okay. Now that isn't even vegetarian, but some people mistakenly think it is (which is annoying). But vegan?!?! Seriously? No animal products? Lobster? Okay so maybe I can see if she had said vegetarian thanksgiving because some religions classify fish as "not meat" during fasts (which I do find odd, but have heard of before), but not an animal product? It boggled my mind so much when she said it I had no words to reply with....
