I hate hearing that.
I've been HOMELESS and managed to stay vegan.
I can survive on beans and rice and frozen or canned veggies and fruits if I have to.
I can feed myself and my partner for less than $40 a week if I have to. Yeah, we end up eating a lot of beans and rice or potato-based soups, and hot oats every morning for breakfast, but it can be done. Granted, this is not the healthiest vegan diet, but look at the average American's fast-food and gas-station grub diet.
There were vegans in the world before Tofutti and Veganaise and Tofurkey.
Oh, and get this! It's been nine months of living paycheck to paycheck and until recently on the streets or couch hopping... and I have not died of malnutrition yet!
