I'm going to be cooking celebration roast, coconut sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce w/maple syrup, garlic smashed potatoes, currant and dill green beans, and some sort of pie (though not quite sure on desert yet.)
They're good. I don't really like the stuffing in the middle of the Tofurkey roasts, so that's why we go with the celebration roasts. The texture of the *meat* part is less rubbery than Tofurkey too.
i don't want to make a tofurky either. i sorta hate meat imitators. plus.. there will be omnivores there and they inevitably compare it to the real thing and go on and on about how it falls short.
i'd much rather make something inherently (or almost inherently) vegan that really tastes amazing.
i found a recipe once for a sweet potato lasagna with cashew cream sauce. maybe that? i'd need to do a test run first though. let me see if i can find the recipe......
btw, vegetarian times (or was it veg news?) magazine has a lot of good thanksgiving recipe ideas that aren't tofurky.
prolly veg news. i got vegetarian times for free lately but their thanksgiving stuff was like, "let's make a cheese casserole!" and nothing looked that impressive.
but i'll keep an eye out for veg news.
tofurkeys textures kinda weird to me. i got it because it was like oh hey, what can i make that's somewhat a festive food but quick and easy?
This year I am thinking of buying fake turkey slices, wrapping the stuffing inside and then baking them and pouring vege gravy ontop. In the past I have just foregone the "turkey" for the family thanksgiving, but do tofurkey with my veg*n friends. I like tofurkey :/
I'm going to my partner's house since he lives closer to the school than I do. I'm pretty much at the mercy of his grandmother [whose been informed] but I am making Apple Cider cupcakes for desert.

they looked interesting but they cost a ton more than tofurkey, which kept me away.

the whole consistency is just....weird.

As a veg main, I made a seitan Wellington -- essentially a seitan loaf covered in vege pate and duxelles, and then wrapped in puff pastry and baked.
OMG yum.
Desserts were things like pies and what not, most of them were also vegan. I personally brought a lemon cake to the mix.

I am looking forward to feasting some more in December so that I can justify making it again...
