I went to the Farm Sanctuary website, and I do like that they give you access to their financial info- but do you know where I can find out how much donated money actually goes to the animals?

Dang, one other thing: Weren't there some controversies about the Farm Sanctuary butchering animals or some sort? I remember something of it in the last few times this stuff was posted. I am interested in donating, but again, I can't find information on it on the website. Can someone re-cap that for me? I kinda want to know what exactly I'm supporting. (and if they do butcher and sell meat, it doesn't necessarily mean I won't donate, I just want to know the reasons and justifications if so)

No idea what you're been reading, but they don't butcher animals at all. They save animals from being butchered though :)

^^; Thank you, it was just in the comments in one of the vegan boards. I think I recall that they sold meat or some such thing, I wasn't paying much attention. I read the Farm Sanctuary site, and I like it. I don't have my card on me now, but I'll donate later today. Best of luck, and I really hope you get a lot more donations. (And my apologies for not donating sooner, I really should have)

It's never to late and no worries at all. Thank you for your support. I personally really like what they do and cannot wait to get out there in November and visit for the Thanksgiving Celebration FOR Turkeys :D My bf and I are going to adopt a turkey and go give it hugs <333 (That is a personal donation we are making! These are not for that...just so you know!)

*giggle* I was just thinking that it would be great if they had an adopt-an-animal sort of thing, like they do with sponsoring 3rd World children. I would like to visit one, too, maybe I'll get the chance some day. I hope it's a great visit!

100% of the donations go to the animals: equipment, food, medical care, and whatever else is used in caring for them.

Yes, but how much do the animals actually get in CASH? :-)

LOL!

Depends on what their allowances are. How else do you think they have enough money for their Poker nights every Friday? It's people like us who help to fuel their addiction.

-it's a non-profit organization, but i know what you mean. I am not sure the percentage, i'm sure you can actually ask them...it wouldn't hurt. But they house a LOT of farm animals...they don't turn them away. Right now i know they also need a new tractor. They don't send out a lot of literature like PETA (for argument) and the outreach part of their work is mostly volunteer and interns i believe. Of all the animal organizations, i'm sure this is one where the animals at #1 being that they house them, and would never ever cut into thier needs for other purpose/agenda ( ... )

Oh, wonderful, that does ring bells, I'm glad to have that cleared up, thank you very much.

And yeah, I was worried about that. Non-profit can still get away with paying directors obscene amounts and still be keep the not-for-profit nametag. =\ It's disgusting that you have to worry about that, but I'm struggling, and I don't want money to be wasted. I'm glad to donate, though, places like this are desperately needed, and the animals deserve my money more than some junk-food company or something.
