i was actually just kind of being nice to her, as a really old friend from teenageland that i haven't even spoken to in many years. she still kind of sounds young to me. i am learning that it's best not to look back, and just keep moving forward.
I know what you mean! Most omnis (or vegetarians) that talk with me about veganism moan "But you DON'T UNDERSTAND! I LOVE cheese!!" No, fool, YOU don't understand. I was a cheese-aholic. I put cheese on my cheese and then finished off with more cheese. Just because my convictions became of greater importance than my comfort, doesn't mean I was any less of an addict, or that it was easier. Ugh. Huge pet peeve.
Vegan Gourmet helps me get through. But I have yet to find a reasonable feta substitute and seriously miss tzatziki. I need to learn to make vegan versions of both like whoa--the latter will be easy as plain soy yogurt's all I need.
there are so many of these conversations posted here. and it seems like you just can't argue with that stance because no matter what they're saying, they're essentially just saying "hehehe, i don't care about anything becuz it tastes good."
Precisely. And you know, I get a lot of people who feel compelled to make excuses to me when they discover my ethical choices (i.e. veganism, organic, eco-friendly, etc). But it just doesn't work. I won't go to town in a fight or anything, but I won't stay silent either. The bottom line is that these things have to matter more to you than your current perceived comfort level, and that is the ONLY difference between us.
I love your icon. Is this a group? Where can I check it out? ;)
people who say that are just grasping for anything else to blame it on to deflect responsibility from themselves. It isn't *their* fault they eat meat/cheese--they are just so addicted they can't HELP it; it's out of their hands so don't blame themmm. Worst argument ever.
But it sounds like this friend just doesn't really give a shit.
Worst argument ever is right. And you are correct, it was not even an argument, she doesn't care. "Old friend" = someone I have not spoken to in many years, so I wasn't terribly surprised.

This persons typing says it all.
I hate having conversations like this. It usually ends up with me "forgetting" to ever talk to them again.
