I had a boss once who became a born-again Christian during the time I worked for her. A few months after that I switched back to being a vegetarian after a brief stint as an omni (all this was a few years before I went vegan). When it came up in a conversation between her daughter and me, she [the boss] mentioned something about the Bible saying that "god gave man dominion over the animals" and that means we can do whatever we want with them.
My response to her was something along the lines of "just because god tells you that you can do something, doesn't mean you should." My response to someone else may have been closer to "that's not my god," so depending on your religious views and how flippant you want to be, you could use that too.
Also, a king has dominion over his people and lands, yet he would be considered a terrible king if he were to rape, murder and eat them. Dominion should also come with the pretext of "care, guide and protect", not just "own".
