Did you know that Tylenol has animal by-products in it?

I am personally allergic to all forms of pain medication (it really sucks) You all probably know this, but for those that didnt, I thought I would share with you. My friend wrote to the company, because she couldn't get a complete list of ingredients, and this was the response they sent to her:

Yeah, all the pain meds require testing.. no med really doesn't. Testing of meds is the one thing I have to overlook sadly because I'm on prescription ones that I need, and I try to take pain meds and shit sparingly.. though now I need a new pain med cause I thought Tylenol was okay....

you do realize that tylenol is tested on animals? So, technically, even if it did not have animal ingredients.. it would still not be right to use, morally speaking.

well all those OTC drugs have been tested on animals at some point in their lives... while tylenol's manufacturer may not actively test on tylenol any more (even if the ingredients were vegan) now that it's out on the market, i personally don't consider any pharmaceuticals to be vegan.

that said, if you really need something to have a better quality of life, i would never judge you for taking something non-vegan, but i definitely sympathise. another reason why we need to stop animal testing and find animal-free alternatives to drug development.

I guess in a way I am glad I am allergic to this stuff. All I can take for a headache is a deep breath :( Toothaches I swish a lot of scalding hot salt water, and when its really bad, some Jack Daniels. If the jack doesn't work I just start drinking it. Not that I advocate the use of illegal drugs by irresponsible people, but I wish that marijuana was legalized in the US like alcohol is, thats a pretty good pain killer. But too many people would abuse it, so I guess that wouldn't work out. :-/

Well marijuana can be abused just like alcohol. I believe in moderation, and that too much of a good thing is bad. I think that any substance that can impair judgement, driving ability, etc, should be consumed carefully and responsibly. (Not that marijuana is half as bad as alcohol; I'm pretty sure I have never heard of anyone smoking up and getting into an accident, resulting in serious injuries or death, and you have to smoke at least double your body weight to overdose on marijuana, unlike alcohol where you can die of overdose pretty easily.) I'm in support of its legalization and widespread distribution. The list of positive effects of marijuana, as well as the cannabis/hemp plant goes on forever, but I think that discussion is probably better saved for a different livejournal group lol.
