Disappointment is setting in

Yeah, when she said that it took me a minute to process it. We're going on a tour specially to look at the wildlife and it seems so...wrong to be chowing down on sausages made from the animals you're looking at, or their cousins in this case.

Oh, that sucks. :(
Good luck finding something to eat, though, and have fun on your trip!

Compassion Over Killing has a vegetarian guide to Portland, called "VegPortland". It's online at http://www.vegportland.com/, and you can probably pick it up at local veg restaurants in Portland.

Thanks! There's about 900 billion places that look good in Portland; I wish we were staying more than 3 days.

try:
the foundation (main and seventh ave, open 12pm - late)
the naam (open 24 hours, west fourth and macdonald)
sweet cherubim (commercial drive, open daily til 10pm)

i recommend hitting a trader joes on the way up and stocking up. i wish we had trader joes in canada. i go nuts every time i'm in the states.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've never been to a Trader Joes before, is anything specific I should be sure to pick up?

cranberry banana chip trail mix is to DIE for.
cheap stuff in general. trader joe's brand homous is great and they've got a vegan truffle chocolate bar that makes me want to melt as easily as it melts in my mouth.

I know! I'm so sad we'll only be there three days. But we'll be there for the car free day on the 22nd, so that's exciting.

i always travel with 10-20 luna bars. they have candy-bar like flavors, and have lots of vitamins and minerals.

I don't generally like to eat the bars like that, but I think it would be a good idea to stock up on some for Denali and traveling through Canada. Do you like luna better than clif?

i don't try to eat them all the time either. but in the northern midwest, and parts of the south (in usa) i've been stuck with either my luna bars, or fries as my possible food options.

clif bars are energy bars. they have lots of calories and are kinda plain/dense. the luna bars are usually 200 ish calories each, have tons of added nutrients, and most some have awesome chocolate or caramel layers. its like taking a delicious multivitamin

Suncakes are also a great great great idea. I think you can only order them online, but they ship pretty quickly. http://suncakes.com/
