Help me help my Hubby

My hubby has been vegan for about 6 months now. He made the switch after seeing my hemoglobin alc levels go from 7.1 to now a 5.4 simply controlled by a vegan diet with little to no processed food diet. try watching delicious tv. it's on itunes.. and is a vegetarian cooking show, although nearly everything she makes is vegan.. and what isn't vegan can very easily be made so (and she tells you how). she does a lot of low fat/health conscious cooking, and even if a recipe isn't low fat, she tells you how to easily make it so!

i think a cheat day is fine. everyone needs a treat now and then, and moderation is key.

carbs are fine, as long as they're complex carbs (whole grains and such, like your bread), and as long as they're not like 500% of one's diet.

one of the easiest tricks i've found to lose weight is salad. eat a big healthy salad with low-fat dressing before a meal, and you get filled up on that pretty fast and eat a very moderate portion of the other stuff. also drink a lot of water; it flushes the system and keeps people from thinking they're hungry when they're not. very often, when people feel hungry.. they're really just dehydrated.

go for long walks! it's very difficult to lose weight without increasing exercise. walking is low-impact for the knees, leisurely, and a nice stress reducer too.
