Hecklers
I know I've been posting a lot lately. My new job doesn't really have a lot for me to do at the moment so I end up sitting at my desk for what seems like 7/8 hours.
Because of this, I surf the web a lot and spend most of my time on LJ (which I have to say is savior). Not to mention I have no vegan friends in person except my husband and I know all of his answers :-P
Well, today I jazzed it up a bit and was randomly looking up movies on imdb just to see what people's opinions were. I desided to look up Year of the Dog, because the opinions on that movie are pretty split.
Of course, there were people there posting about how glad they are to be vegan, etc. and then you get the reply's like this:
There's nothing better than tearing flesh off bone with your teeth while holding on with both hands!!!!!! Eating meat is wonderfully HUMAN and a truly VICERAL experience!! If you're a wuss, then go vegan. Yay. Good luck trying to blend in at parties and going out to eat. "Oh, I can have that, it was made with eggs" - INSTANT DOWNER. I can't date vegans cause it's incredibly stressful: "Want to go here for dinner" - "Oh I dunno they don't have many salads" "OK How about here?" "No, they mostly have meat dishes too" "OK How about I DUMP YOU FOR BEING A PAIN IN THE BUTT!?"
You're supposed to eat meat. That's why it's called MEAT.
My question is: How do all of you deal with motherf'ers like this? I just get so enraged and I want to write back, but I know that's all they want you to do. Not only through message boards, but how do you treat things like this in person? Sometimes I get dumbstruck and don't know what to say and sometimes I try to send a couple jabs - neither way feels particularly gratifying.
Oh, and has anybody ever said anything that put you on the brink of violence? I'm not saying its right, or that you HAVE been violent towards someone, but has anyone ever enraged you so much it takes ever bone in your body not to tear open their chest and rip out their still beating heart?
