**EDIT** ok, i took away the title, which was obviously a trigger. seriously people, i'm not looking to defend people who "only eat fish" and i'm not looking to justify it to myself! it is never morally defensible to eat any sea animals, because they're animals.
so. i've been wondering for a while how "natural" it is for humans to eat marine life. we hear a lot on the dangers of eating land animals, and i think it's beyond disputing that it's bad for us to eat them. but i've never seen anything on the innate dangers of fish. it's true that what's on sale in the grocery store contains unsafe amounts of mercury and excess fat, but both of these are the fault of humankind, the former for tainting the water and the latter for "farming" wild animals; they're not true, genetic characteristics of any marine species. furthermore, humans are really good at and fond of swimming, for a land species. it all makes me wonder about fish and whether humans are equipped to consume them. opinions? facts that google hasn't yielded up?
again, the fact that i'm unsure about how natural this practice is doesn't mean i'm unsure about its moral weight, and isn't intended to justify eating fish (and i'd say if someone used it to do so, they were never vegan to begin with). it just intrigues me that i've never been able to unearth a single mention of the issue anywhere.
