Here in Michigan, gun hunting season began today. (I don't know if these dates are nation-wide or what?)
I live in a pretty small, redneck town, where hunting is really popular.
I was wondering what kind of 'argument' you all have against hunting, if any? Facts for and against? Personal situations?
For myself I obviously feel really sad about the painful death of these animals (I am a wildlife rehabilitator so it is even moreso counteractive to my cause) and I get extra bitter at these jerky-making, beer-drinking "men" sitting in trees. I also like to walk in the woods but now I can't even do that without wearing some big orange hat, and even with that, I don't feel safe (some years back my brother almost got shot while waiting at the end of our driveway) Then someone dropped off this flier in our post box saying something along the lines of: "DID YOU SHOOT A BUCK THAT GOT AWAY? IF SO, I KNOW WHERE IT IS" and a phone number is listed. This is even worse that they shoot an animal and let it wander off into the woods to suffer and die.
A lot of people argue that it is for population control. But doesn't mother nature take care of that like it has for billions of years?
I guess I just want something more logical to say to people who tell me there isn't a problem with hunting. I'm not looking to start arguments with people, but most people don't react when all I say is, "I feel bad for the animals" (though they should!)
Just curious to as how the rest of you are treating hunting season.
