I think most people have heard of
The Burning Man Project by now, but I was curious to hear whether any of you have gone before or know vegans/vegetarians who have & could offer advice on what sort of food to bring.
As of right now, I am not going to be with a camp, so I don't want to assume that I will have access to heat to cook food. Thus, I imagine will be heavily relying on canned foods - which are high in sodium, but that is ok for the desert conditions & I will be well-hydrated. Because of the nature of the environment, breads, fruit & other perishable items won't last longer than two days - & I am planning to go for five. I am kind of stumped beyond dehydrated fruits & nuts (shelled so as to avoid waste), soy dogs plain (yes, I like them unheated), oatmeal since it requires very little water, crackers & cereals. I know there are more options than that, & I am doing the research elsewhere & in the memories, but I'd love to have the added wisdom of someone who has gone before.
What sort of meals could I prepare beforehand (I'll have stove access in San Fran before I go) & might be good hot or cold depending on access to fire? Couscous? Pastas? Tabouleh? What keeps relatively well in shoddy refrigeration? I like everything & am allergic to nothing, so the sky's the limit here.
Really, any advice on must have items - food or otherwise - would be fantastic & appreciated.
