Intuitive Eating More or Less

Mar 02, 2007 15:12

I don't actually know a lot about intuitive eating, but I think my question is sort of related.

I used to get intensely hungry and have cravings  ALL the time.  Since then I've gone vegan, started eating very minimal to no refined sugar, started getting my fruits and veggies, and stick mostly to whole foods.  Now I NEVER have cravings, and even when I'm hungry I'm not HUNGRY!!

My question now, is during the week I don't really eat "intuitively".  I eat a smoothie for breakfast before I'm hungry (I've never been a breakfast person), I eat lunch based on some sort of mental calculous involving boredom with work, and/or planning to make sure I make it through class before dinner (I have a 3-7 pm class once a week).  Usually I'm hungry by dinner, but not always, but I cook when I get home for my boyfriend (or him for me).

This week I skipped a couple of lunches because I just wasn't hungry.  Today I write, because I woke up at 7, ate a smoothie, went to a meeting and then came home and took a nap.  I decided that it was 2:30, and I should eat, but I'm not hungry.  Checked in with myself... definately not hungry, just a little thirsty.

I think that if I only ate when I was starting to feel hungry I wouldn't eat enough, and I don't want that.  I've lost almost 10 pounds since going vegan in January, and I have another 5 to go, before I get back down to a healthy BMI.  I certainly don't want to under eat and fubar my health, metabolism and progress.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this, and or what people would do in a similar situation.  My first priority is to be healthy, and the second is to lose weight, because the goal I gave myself puts losing those last 5 pounds sometime before June 1st.  I'm really in no hurry.
