sorry for so many posts today! this is great news, though!
this morning, there was a faculty-led discussion at my school on the ethics of war/pacifism. at the end, there was time for questions. as i always do when people say that killing is wrong, i raised the question of how our understanding that violence is wrong should be applied outside our species to non-human animals and the environment.
the three panelists said they figured i would raise this question, knowing that i'm vegan. one didn't really have any input. the 2nd said that it's an issue with which he's been struggling, and, while not ready to fully become vegan yet, he's wrestling with whether or not to continue eating meat.
the 3rd response was from the professor who had told me recently that he had been continuing to wrestle with my essay on the social justice aspects of vegetarianism (
link to the post). he said that his view on this question has been totally changed, though he didn't want it to. he said that reading my essay has helped him realize that there is great injustice--to both the animals and the human race through unequal food distribution--in meat-consumption. he said that it would be in everyone's interest to please read my essay and really think through it.
i've already had some people ask for copies. i'm stoked! so, i guess he's a vegetarian now, which is awesome.
