letter to clergy who allow hunting on their/church grounds

Nov 02, 2006 15:31

my friend recently wrote this email to Christian clergy who allow hunters to either hunt on their personal property or on property owned by churches. she is not a Christian, but the letter shows remarkable insights into how the situation looks to vegans outside the Christian community ( Read more... )

NOPE! I stand by my comment. Religion is bullshit. If you can't handle my opinion, ignore it.

if you can't argue without making illogical ad hominem attacks, then don't try to join a conversation
there are idiots in any group, religion, politics, animal rights, social justice, whatever... you can't write off an entire group on a purely ad hominem / hasty generalization basis without somoene pointing out your complete logical fallacy
so if you can't handle someone pointing out gross fallacies you make, i guess...ignore it?

Like I said, if you can't handle my opinion, you should ignore it, because there is no point in this argument. My original comment is my opinion on your post... do you post things in communities because you want other people's opinions, or do you only want people to agree with you? It's your own business that you believe in god, it's my own to business to think that any religion is a crutch for the desperate, hopeless, and those willing to fit in with the herd mentality.

maybe i should have clarified that i posted what my friend wrote for intelligent responses. i don't consider logical fallacies to fit in that category. if you make very baseless generalizations and character attacks, i will call you out on it. there's no logic to back up a character attack like that, so i pointed it out.
we could go back and forth on this all day, but my point is this: i'm not offended at all, because i don't let people i don't know who make illogical statements really get to me. but you should realize that you're making completely illogical statements in a way that's tengtial to the post at best. that's why i implied that your foot was in your mouth: i'm a Christian, i'm well capable of rational thought and have definitely changed my mind on a subject when i become better informed of the situation.

if you weren't offended i'm not sure why you replied at all. i realize that you're trying to make me look stupid and in the process you're really only making yourself look immature by trying to be right about this when it's OPINION we're talking about. you can stand by your christianity, i stand by my belief in anarchism and autonomy, but sorry, people are allowed to challenge our beliefs!!

i replied because you made a baseless illogical attack on the character of a group of people, rather than making a comment that actually applied to anything

i wouldn't have cared if your comment was about some group i'm not a part of; i don't just sit by and let people attack the character of people when they have nothing to say that's actually a logical point

just because i'm a christian doesn't mean i don't believe in autonomy or anarchism. this again proves that you're making claims against people you don't know anything about.

you're refusing to realize that the sole issue is that you insulted people instead of actually having something intelligent to contribute, and that's why i replied to your comment, regardless of who the group was.

as anarchism is rejection of all forms of oppression, control, and authority. how are you an anarchist when you believe in a higher power that has control over your life and beliefs? i see on your profile that you're also pro-life.... how the hell can you call yourself an anarchist? who are you to govern a women's right? i think you are very misinformed about a lot of things. i think you are also one of those people who considers their opinions and beliefs to be fact.

get over it.

you like to repeat the same things over and over as insults, we have also learned that.

thank you for getting your online friends involved, too. this was a much needed distraction from my boring work day!

getting my online friends involved? huh? i'm guessing from that someone messaged you, which is unbeknownst to me
and i'll keep driving the point home as long as is necessary: you make baseless claims in illogical statements. it's both unfair and counterproductive.

actually, i'm one of the happiest people i know
and i understand logic, to boot!

also, i'm guessing your previous comment was referring to the comment from vgnwtch below. i neither imagined nor asked for a response from her on this. however, she is one of the community moderators, so her responding at some point to any of the topics in the community is quite probable.
