i was looking for info on connections between animal rights and human rights for this group i work with on campus, when i found this: http://www.hedweb.com/alffaq.htm

the article is published by "the hedonistic imperative", which argues that a nanotechnology revolution will come and remove sentient suffering for all conscious beings. it really snuck up on me reading the article which includes an ALF FAQ.
one horrifying quote is as follows: "Thus The Hedonistic Imperative argues that there is only one long-term way to abolish the ghastliness of suffering on a planetary scale. Such a strategy entails eradicating its biological roots. This can be done only by using genetic-engineering and nanotechnology. This major transition in the evolution of life will replace the DNA-driven pain and malaise of our evolutionary past. The molecular architecture of the old Darwinian Era will be succeeded by modes of consciousness that are more beautiful than anything we can currently imagine."
has anyone ever heard of this or anything like it? is this for real?
