Vegan dishes in the general theme of quiche?

Oct 03, 2012 09:50

Let me know if this sort of question is not allowed but my CSA sends us a dozen eggs a week, and as we do not eat them [often], they tend to pile up, and then I invite omni or vegetarian friends over to eat them, usually in quiche form. When it's just me, it's easy to find other things to eat, but I was thinking of including other vegans in the ( Read more... )

isa's vegan brunch book has a quiche in it, and it's rather tasty. (it's very dense ( ... )

I had considered going the vegan quiche route, but wasn't sure if next to an egged quiche it was the right way. but thanks for the recipe, i'm sure to try it out some time soon :)

but you are asking in vegancooking. none of us would give you a non-vegan quiche recipe.

also, if you have vegans over to your party, don't you think it might be rude to not have anything they can eat?

(i don't understand this response. i was considering not approving your post because of the mention of you actually using eggs, but pardoned you on the fact that it seemed like you were asking for vegan quiche recipes. did i read your request completely wrong?)

oh, ok, i reread your original question. the way i look at it is if you're having a quiche party, and invite vegans, we would expect to have a quiche at the quiche party. even if we had chinese food, we would feel left out because it's essentially a quiche party. you know? (same thing with a pizza party where we need to eat crudite, potato chips, and olives.)

Ah, I think I must have miscommunicated. I am not looking for quiche recipes at all [though yours looks great!], I am looking for vegan recipes in the general arena of the same type of foods as quiche--so, vaguely european, french, or american-esque. I personally don't like to 'compare' vegan and nonvegan foods. thus having the egg-quiche to use up all the eggs, but then also having equally interesting and that-general-part-of-the-world appropriate dishes. I do not really cook much in that vein, being more eastern influenced, hence my drawing a blank and asking for advice :)

aaah! ok, but if you see it from a vegan's point of view, there would be no comparing. :-) (you know?) the omnivores don't have to eat the vegan quiche if they don't want to. (and if you are inviting enough vegans that they might eat the whole vegan quiche, the omnivores shouldn't eat the vegans' food. you know? when that runs out, there's nothing else for the vegans.)

i'm just giving you perspective into your vegan companions' opinion. we rarely eat quiches that it would be a nicer gesture than more easily made french foods.

If I were invited to a mixed brunch, I'd totally prefer & love to see a veganized version of the far less appealing nonvegan option. The FFV mini quiche is adorable and delicious. I'd feel left out to be relegated to side dishes that go alongside the nonvegan main course.

I'm a little weirded out by the pro-egg and anti-vegan-quiche tone but I do appreciate the OP asking for vegan options.

Personally, I'd want a vegan quiche. With hashbrowns. But I'm no classy French ghoul ;)

I agree, a vegan version of something tasty that is offered would be most appealing
