This is not useful or what you asked, but let me for a moment SQUEEEE about Chicago Diner and recommend that you go there. It's not entirely vegan (pricy Karen's is--and worth the money, but I digress...) but they are entirely vegetarian and will make most things on the menu vegan, and their desserts (including their shakes) are entirely vegan.
These are the BEST shakes/fountain drinks I've ever had. Ever. In my life. I grew up in NYC and waited tables in diners in Manhattan and know of what I speak. Go here. Have a shake. Their vegan cheesecake is also totally to die for amazing.

OMG you are singing my tune right now.
I've been eating super well all summer, but for the five days I'm in Chicago, I'm letting myself go nuts and try stuff. I'm super amazed at how vegan friendly Chicago is, especially since everyone (including me) assumes it's a meat town.
All the more important for me to make good choices on the road so I don't turn into a total whale after trying all this fabulous stuff. I'll totally check this out, thanks!!

I am taking a train from mid-coastal Virginia to Denver in a few days, and I, too, am totally into the idea of going to the Chicago Veggie Diner!! I found it while Googling around, and it looks really great! Glad to know it comes highly recommended.

oh, it is so good. i love it!
there is another place that is at the tip of my tongue, and i just cannot think of it. so good, huge portions, vegan is easily made, and omg, the food. ugh. why can't i think of it? i was just in illinois, a friend did a gig right near it and brought me food from there since he knew we would be meeting up. i hate that i cannot remember things.

Did you figure out a good way to get to the Chicago Diner from the train station? Are you taking a cab? I haven't looked into trying to get there yet but my husband and I frequently take the train cross-country, and we always have a layover in Chicago. :-)

Neat! Fort Collins? I know that Colorado will be the best thing to ever happen to me; at this point I'm just biding my time waiting for it to hurry up and happen, haha.

Yep!
I lived here for four years a few years back and couldn't quite get my life settled enough, so I started to resent the area. I left for two years, realized I missed the hell out of the land out here, and came back a year ago. And I've found my place this time around much more easily for some reason, so I'm so happy I gave it a second chance.
Have you already started looking up vegan-friendly restaurants in the area? We even have a few up here in Fort Collins. :) OH. And there are vegan meet-up groups, too. The Denver one is VERY active. Even if you aren't the type of person to enjoy meeting up with strangers, you should join the club anyway because they're always on top of letting members know when movies/speakers/new restaurants are coming to town.

That's great that you're all settled in and content this time around. Virginia never quite worked for me, so I'm glad to have an opportunity for a fresh start, brand new place, etc. I love the idea of Colorado, though I've never been anywhere in the state. Also, the people here seem ridiculously friendly (you and others, even on this site), which I love, love, love! I was actually all set to move to Boston for school, but I realized quickly that I'd be in hell in a city like that. So, Denver!
Also, no, I hadn't read about any meetup groups, but I'd definitely love to join one! One thing that I thought was neat about Boston was that they had a Boston Vegan Society, which I was looking for in Denver. Where do you find about about their meetings? I'm always looking for vegan pals everywhere.
I've sort of started trying to look around at restaurants in the area, but the move has kept me so busy that I'm not quite as on top of my a-game as usual with things like this. :p
